I was reading a book today called "NUMBERS RULE YOUR WORLD" by Kaiser Fung. In the book he describes how annoying the lines and long wait times can be one of the most reasons patrons complained on exit questionnaire's. He also explains the methods Disneyland uses like the Fast Pass to encourage riders to come back later and they will be assured a shorter waiting time.
Many times this is the case and the amazing thing that Disney has figured is that they can distract the riders by encouraging them to go wait in other areas of the park or eat. They are able to convince the people that they waited less, which in fact is not the case because they waiting the same amount.
What Disney has been able to do is change the perspective of people and that is why they are such geniuses!!
He mentions a computer programmer from North Carolina that has used statistics and tailored pathways for families, singles, couples with children and some other types of situations to get to more of the rides than the average Disneyland fan would get to see.
His books plan helped a die hard Disneyland couple figure out how to ride every last attraction and everything else Disneyland had to offer in just 13 hours. This was written back in 2007 so there have been some more additions to rides that I am not aware of.
